Employee Assistant Program (EAP)

An Employee Assistant Program (EAP) is a counselling service provided by the business to employees at no cost to them. It is a confidential service for employees to support their wellbeing and assist in difficult circumstances.

EAPs are becoming more and more common these days – so why should you consider implementing one in your workplace?

There are many advantages to implementing wellbeing initiatives in the workplace – EAP being the main example of this.

Employee Assistance Program can assist employees with a wide range of issues outside the work sphere, including personal issues and family issues. Providing employees with an easily accessible platform to address these issues allows them a chance to understand the issues at hand and develop plans and coping mechanisms, contributing to their wellbeing.

Wellbeing is linked to how satisfied a person feels within their life, situation, and work. It is the measure of a person’s happiness, psychological, emotional, and mental state.

Workers who have access to counselling services and other wellbeing initiatives can display a strong sense of wellbeing, increased productivity and quality of work, reduced stress in the workplace, and are more engaged in their roles.

Workplaces can also see increased retention rates, reduced absenteeism, and reduced workplace injuries. A workplace that displays an interest in their employee’s mental and physical wellbeing also attracts high quality candidates and promotes the workplace culture.
